PREVIEW: Women's Basketball travels to Binghamton for two-game series

Black Bears carry three-game win streak into Binghamton

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team looks to extend its win streak to four in a row when it travels to meet Binghamton for a two-game weekend series. The series will begin on Friday at 7 p.m. and close on Sunday at noon. The Black Bears, who have limited opponents to 39.3 points per game over the three-game win streak, have won three in a row against Binghamton after sweeping the series a year ago in Vestal.

Both weekend games will be streamed live on ESPN+, and can be heard across the Black Bears Sports Network and locally on 92.9 The Ticket.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears have extended their season long win streak to three in a row after holding UMass Lowell to 36 points, a season low total for Maine's defense. Over the three game win streak, Maine is holding opponents to 39.3 points per game with 43 total steals, including a season-high 17 at UNH. The Black Bears are averaging 14.3 steals per game over the stretch. Anne Simon continues to lead the league in scoring at 16.4 points per game overall and a league-best 16.3 in conference play. Simon, who has scored in double-digits in each of her last 12 outings, has been equally as impressive on the defensive end. Simon checks in sixth in the nation at 3.4 steals per game and is averaging 7.0 steals per game over her last three outings. Simon enters the weekend just 36 points away from 1,000 in her career. Alba Orois checks in 28th nationally and tops in the America East at 5.4 assists per game. In conference play, Orois is posting 6.1 helpers. Orois has bested five assists in 10 times this season. Maeve Carroll, who recently moved into 12th on Maine's career rebounding list, ranks second in the league at 7.8 rebounds per game. Carroll has posted double-digit rebounding totals in six games and double-digit point totals in 10. Maine leads the league in turnovers per game, limiting its miscues to just 14.4 per game and just 14.0 in league play.

A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON:
The Bearcats enter the weekend just 1-8 in their last nine and have struggled to a 1-6 start to league play. Binghamton, coming off a 49-48 setback against Stony Brook on Wednesday, is 4-6 on its home court this season. The Bearcats feature two of the top three ranked scorers in the America East. Birna Benonysdottir leads Binghamton and ranks second in the America East at 15.5 points per game while Denai Bowman checks in third at 14.2 points. Clare Traeger is adding 7.2 points and a league-leading 8.4 rebounds. Binghamton ranks third among league leaders in scoring (59.8) and fourth in scoring defense (59.9) and lead the league in 3-point defense (21.0).

SERIES WITH BINGHAMTON:
Maine and Binghamton will meet for the 42 and 43rd time with the Black Bears holding a 27-15 advantage. Maine, which has won 16 of the last 19 meetings, will be looking for its fourth-straight win over Binghamton after sweeping the Bearcats a year ago in a two-game set on the road. The two teams split the season series a year ago, with Binghamton scoring a 73-63 win at the Events Center. Anne Simon enters the series averaging 21.3 points per game and 6.5 rebounds in four career games with the Bearcats. Simon has posted double-digit scoring efforts in each of her four meetings with Binghamton. Maine and Binghamton first met in 2001, a 63-62 overtime victory by the Black Bears. Maine is 13-11 on the road in the series.
