ORONO, ME - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will head out on the road for the Hockey East semifinals as the Black Bears face off against the Northeastern Huskies on Wednesday, Mar. 2.
For the Black Bears, they are coming off of a 2-1 victory in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East playoffs over the Boston College Eagles.
Alyssa Wruble and
Taylor Leech scored the goals for the Black Bears while
Jorden Mattison saved 27 of 28 shots she faced in the winning performance.
Maine has been led offensively this season by
Ida Kuoppala (9 goals, 14 assists) and
Ali Beltz (5 goals, 12 assists).
For Northeastern, they are coming off of a 8-0 victory over the Merrimack Warriors in the Hockey East quarterfinals. Maureen Murphy led the way for the Huskies, as she has done for the majority of the season, as she scored a hat-trick in the victory and added to her team leading 50 points (27 goals, 23 assists).
In the season series, the Huskies were 3-0 over the Black Bears, out scoring the Black Bears 13-1 in the 3 contests, with the most recent being a 2-0 victory back on Feb. 12.
The Hockey East playoffs will see the overtime rules be reverted to the previous season's rules, where it will be 5-on-5, 20-minute extra periods, until a team scores, instead of 3-on-3.
