Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team looks to avenge an earlier season loss to NJIT and run its win streak to nine in a row, matching its longest from a year ago, when it travels to meet the Highlanders on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Maine is undefeated on the road (8-0) in league play this season.
Saturday's game will be streamed on

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears have won eight in a row and have limited opponents to just 46.9 points per game over the stretch. During the win streak, Maine is outscoring its opponent by a +11.5 margin, have held five of the eight opponents to 46 or fewer points, and are forcing 17.5 turnovers with 11.1 steals per game. Three players are averaging double-digits over the stretch, led by
Anne Simon's 15.1 points.
Maeve Carroll is nearly averaging a double-double during the eight game streak with 9.5 points and 9.8 rebounds.
Anne Simon continues to lead the league 16.2 points per game with double-figures in each of her last 17 outings. Simon currently ranks 23rd on Maine's all-time scoring list at 1,042 points. On the defensive end, Simon ranks 10th in the nation at 3.0 steals per game and checks in 15th on the program's all-time steals leader list.
Maeve Carroll, who has notched double-doubles in three of her last five outings, has recorded double-digit scoring in five of her last six games and enters play as the league leader in rebounding at 8.4. Carroll recently became just the 11th player in program history to record 700 rebounds in a career. In her last five games, Maeve is averaging 10.2 points and 10.8 rebounds with double-digit rebounds in four of her last five.
Alba Orois leads the America East in assists, checking in 17th nationally at 5.6 per game. Twelve times this season, Orois has produced six or more assists in a game.
A LOOK AT NJIT:
The Highlanders enter play on a bit of a win streak of their own as they're winners of each of their last three, including a most recent 60-50 victory at UMass Lowell. NJIT, 5-4 at home this season, rank fourth in the conference in scoring (57.7) and sixth in defense (60.1). NJIT leads the America East in blocks, checking in 26th nationally at 4.8 per game, and ranks second among league leaders at 35.9 rebounds per game. Kenna Squier and Lyzi Litwinko lead the scoring charge, both averaging 11.0 points per game. Litwinko leads the team in rebounding (7.0) while Ellyn Stoll is adding 10.7 points.
SERIES WITH NJIT:
Maine and NJIT meet for just the sixth time in history after the Highlanders joined the America East in the 2020-21 season. Maine is making its second trip in program history to NJIT and looking for its first road win against the Highlanders. NJIT defeated Maine earlier this season, 67-59, in overtime.
Anne Simon led Maine in scoring with 19 points while
Maeve Carroll (16) and
Alba Orois (15) each added double-digit efforts. Prior to NJIT joining the league, the two teams met in 2009, a contest won by NJIT in Newark by a score of 63-50. The first-ever meeting came in 2008 where the Black Bears were defeated on their home court, 68-60.
