Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team returns to the road to meet Stony Brook, the top team in the America East, as the Black Bears look to extend their win streak to seven straight on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Saturday's game will air on the SNY TV network and will be streamed on

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears are undefeated on the road in league play (6-0) and recently extended their overall win streak to six straight with a 64-55 victory over UAlbany. Maine is holding its last six opponents to 44.0 points per game, have not given up more than 55 during the stretch and have twice held opponents to 37 or fewer points in a game. Maine has totaled 69 steals (11.5 per game) over the stretch while forcing 17.8 turnovers per game.
Anne Simon, who has recorded double-digit scoring in each of her last 15 outings, became the 23rd player in program history to reach 1,000 points when she did so in the second quarter of Maine's latest outing against UAlbany. Simon leads the league in scoring at 16.2 points per game and has registered double-digit scoring efforts in all but one game this season. The junior guard ranks 11th in the nation in steals per game (3.1) with six or more steals in five games this season.
Maeve Carroll, the reigning America East Player of the Week, has recorded double-doubles in two of her last three outings while notching double-digit scoring in her last four. Carroll ranks second in the league in rebounding (8.1) and has registered double-digit rebounding in eight games this year.
Alba Orois continues to lead the league in assists, recording 5.4 per game overall and 5.8 in league play. Orois, who ranks 27th nationally in assists, has tallied 70 assists through 11 league games and is coming off her second highest point scoring total of the season after dropping 17 against UAlbany.
A LOOK AT STONY BROOK:
The Seawolves carry an 11-game win streak into the weekend meeting and are a perfect 11-0 on their home court. Stony Brook, which has built the fifth best winning percentage in the country, features the nation's 25th ranked defense as it allows just 55.5 points per game, with the nation's ninth ranked 3-point defense (25.0). The Seawolves also bolster the America East's top scoring offense at 68.3 points per game and do damage at the free throw line where they rank first in the league in attempts, makes, and percentage from the stripe (76.2). Anastasia Warren paces the scoring attack for Stony Brook, checking in fourth in the league at 12.7 points per game while India Pagan is adding 11.7, ranking ninth in the conference. Earlette Scott (11.4), Gigi Gonzalez (10.5), and Amori-Leighah Wool (10.20) round out the double-digit scorers. Stony Brook, also the America East leader in rebounding (40.5), is led by Pagan in the paint as she ranked sixth in the league at 6.8 rebounds per game. Gonzalez sets the table, ranking second best in the league at 3.8 assists.
SERIES WITH STONY BROOK:
Maine and Stony Brook have been evenly matched over their 19 year history. Dating back to the first meeting between the two teams in 2001, Maine holds a slim 24-23 advantage in the all-time series. Stony Brook is 3-2 in its last five against Maine. The two teams, who met in last year's America East title game, previously played this season on Jan. 9 with Stony Brook earning a 63-44 victory in Bangor. Maine's last win over Stony Brook came on Feb. 14, 2021 as the Black Bears earned a 54-49 road victory. The Black Bears are 8-14 all-time at Stony Brook. Overall, Maine has won 10 of the last 16 contests with the Seawolves.
