Jaycie Christopher registered a career-high 12 points in Maine's 63-43 loss at Rhode Island on Sunday afternoon.
Christopher tallied all 12 of her points from beyond the arc as the freshmen went 4-for-4 from three point range.
Sera Hodgson joined Christopher in double-figures with 10 points.
The Black Bears, who forced 17 turnovers on the afternoon, finished the game 16-of-54 (37%) from the floor, 7-of-19 from downtown. The Rams shot 49 percent in their win and controlled the boards by a 40-23 advantage.
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine, which currently ranks 41st in the nation in strength of schedule on the year, looks to snap a three-game losing skid when it returns home for the first of a two game homestand. Maine is led by
Caroline Bornemann who ranks 23rd in the conference at 9.0 points per game while checking in seventh among conference leaders in rebounding (6.1).
Adrianna Smith, the conference leader with three double-doubles, is adding 8.4 points and ranks fourth in the conference in both rebounding (7.7) and assists (3.3). Bornemann and Smith each have registered foru double-digit scoring performances on the season.
Olivia Rockwood is adding 8.3 points and checks in fourth among league leaders in three point field goals per game (2.1) and three point percentage (34.5). Rockwood has hit a three in seven of Maine's nine games and four or more in three of the nine. Maine averages 53.3 points per game and ranks fourth in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 62.4 points. Maine continues to set the tone among America East programs in three-point shooting, averaging a league best 7.0 makes from downtown per game.
A LOOK AT FORDHAM:
The Rams, 1-2 on the road this season, are coming off a 65-55 victory at Manhattan on Dec. 3. Fordham, selected fourth in the A-10 preseason poll, is led by former Stony Brook guard Asiah Dingle who enters averaging 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists while shooting 42.2 percent from downtown. Cumberland, Maine native Anna DeWolfe, an A-10 preseason all-conference first team selection, is adding 17.4 points while shooting 40.0 from behind the arc. Kaitlyn Downey rounds out the double-figure scorers at 13.6 points to go along with a team-high 9.9 rebounds. The Rams rank second in the A-10, and 58th nationally, in scoring at 75.4 points per game and rank ninth in the nation with 9.7 triples per game and an A-10 leading 36.9 percent from three point range.
SERIES WITH FORDHAM:
Maine and Fordham meeting for the fourth time in history and the first since 2019. Maine controls the all-time series, 2-1, but Fordham owns the most recent victory after taking the 2019 decision in overtime, 72-64, on its home court. Maine won the first two meetings in the series including the first-ever meeting in 2000, 66-51. The Rams have not visited Maine since that 2000 meeting.
