Maine begins three-game road trip at Harvard

Orono, Maine -- The Black Bears begin a stretch of three-straight road contests with a trip to Harvard for a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday's game can be seen live on NESN and streamed on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the game locally on 92.9 The Ticket and nationally at GoBlackBears.com.

LAST TIME OUT:
Orono, Maine -- The Black Bears totaled their highest point total since 2019 while hitting a season-high 13 three pointers to earn an 88-60 victory over Army on Sunday afternoon.

Caroline Bornemann poured in a career-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds while Jaycie Christopher finished with seven three pointers and a career-best 26 points with seven rebounds in the victory. Christopher's seven triples were the most by a Black Bear since Kelly Fogarty's school-record 10 back on Jan. 3, 2021. Adrianna Smith turned in 14 points, her third double-digit performance in her last four outings, with six assists.

Maine, which outscored Army 22-9 in the second quarter, put forth its best overall shooting day of the season with a 56.4 clip (31-55) from the floor and a 13-for-25 (52.0) mark from three-point range.

The Black Bears dominated the glass by a 37-25 margin while forcing 12 Army turnovers.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine looks for its first winning streak of the season in Sunday's game with Harvard after coming off its most complete, convincing win of the season. In the win over Army, Maine set season highs in three pointers (13). The Black Bears are led by Caroline Bornemann who is coming off a career-high 29 point outing and enters ranked ninth in the America East at 10.8 points per game. Bornemann has registered double-figure scoring efforts in five of Maine's 11 games and ranks fifth among America East leaders in rebounding (5.5). Adrianna Smith, the America East leader with four double-doubles on the season, ranks 11th in the league in scoring (10.2), fourth in rebounding (7.5), second in assists (3.9), and fifth in field goal percentage (46.0). Olivia Rockwood is Maine's top three-point threat, ranking third in the league in percentage from beyond the arc (34.3) and fourth at 2.1 triples made per game. Maine's 88 point outing against Harvard bumped it up to fifth in the league in scoring at 56.3 points per game while checking in third in scoring defense, allowing 61.7 points.

A LOOK AT HARVARD:
The Crimson, 4-1 on its home court, are coming off a 73-64 loss at Northeastern on Dec. 5. Harmoni Turner leads Harvard at 17.9 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds, a team-high 4.5 assists and a 40.8 percent mark from three-point range. Turner has posted double-figure scoring efforts in seven of Harvard's 10 games, besting 20 points five times including a season-high 31 point effort against Rhode Island. McKenzie Forbes is adding 13.2 points while Lola Mullaney is averaging 12.4 points. Elena Rodriguez leads Harvard in rebounding at 5.2 boards per game while chipping in 8.4 points. The Crimson rank second in the Ivy in scoring (70.2) and seventh in scoring defense (68.4). Harvard ranks second in the league from the floor (42.2), second from three-point range (34.8), and tops from the free throw stripe (76.4). Defensively, Harvard is forcing 18.3 turnovers per outing.

SERIES WITH HARVARD:
Maine and Harvard will meet for the 18th time and the first time since 2019. Maine holds a 10-7 all-time mark over the Crimson. Maine has won two of the last two meetings, including a 67-60 victory in its last trip to Harvard, but lost the most recent meeting by a final of 69-40 in 2019 at the Cross Insurance Center. Maine and Harvard's first-ever meeting came in 1984, an 86-56 Black Bear win. Maine is 4-4 all-time at Harvard.
