LAST TIME OUT:
Spokane, Wash. -- University of Maine freshman guard
Sarah Talon guided Maine with a career-high 13 points as the Black Bears fell to No. 23 Gonzaga, 62-43.
Talon finished the evening 5-of-9 from the floor to go along with four assists.
Caroline Bornemann added seven points while
Adrianna Smith chipped in five points and a team-best five rebounds.
Maine, which trailed by just one after the first quarter, finished the contest 17-for-49 from the floor, including a 5-for-19 showing from three-point range, while forcing 14 Gonzaga turnovers.
Maine's lone lead in the contest came just 1:39 into the ballgame when
Paula Gallego's triple put the Black Bears on top, 5-3.
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears return home where they have won nine of their last 11 on their home court, including a 61-59 victory on Nov. 21 against Northeastern. Maine is led by
Caroline Bornemann who ranks 21st in the America East at 9.1 points per game. Bornemann, who has tallied double-digits in two of her last three outings, has posted a pair of double-doubles on the season and ranks fifth in the league at 5.1 rebounds per game. Sharp-shooter
Olivia Rockwood checks in 22nd in the league at 9.0 points per game and ranks second among league leaders in three-point field goals per game (2.4) and third in three-point percentage (37.0).
Adrianna Smith, also with a pair of double-doubles on the year, is averaging 8.7 points per game and ranks fourth among America East leaders in both rebounding (7.3) and assists (3.1). Smith had tallied double-digit scoring efforts in three of Maine's first seven outings. The Black Bears continue to rank at the top of the league in three point field goals per game (7.6) with eight or more makes in three of seven including a season best 12 against Niagara. Maine checks in third in the league at 33.1 percent from downtown.
A LOOK AT PRINCETON:
The Tigers have won two of their last three outings after suffering a most recent 74-50 setback at No. 16 Texas. Kaitlyn Chen leads three Tigers in double-figures at 14.6 points per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds and a 50.0 mark from the floor. Julia Cunningham is adding 13.2 points and a team-high 5.6 rebounds while Grace Stone rounds out the double-digit scorers at 10.6 points with a team-best 47.6 percent mark from three point range. A year ago, Princeton advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the Ivy League title with an undefeated league record. This season, Princeton has been strong on the boards as it ranks second in the Ivy League at 38.6 rebounds per game and check in with the league's third ranked defense at 63.4 points per game. Princeton leads the Ivy and ranks 55th nationally with 4.6 blocks per game.
SERIES WITH PRINCETON:
Maine is 1-1 all-time against Princeton. The Black Bears won the first-ever meeting between the two programs, 69-63, on Nov. 19, 2006 in the second round of the Minnesota Subway Classic. This will be Maine's first time hosting Princeton in Orono. A year ago, the Black Bears dropped a 82-43 decision at Princeton. Maine is 40-23 all-time against the Ivy League.
