Orono, ME – The University of Maine field hockey team defeated the Catamounts of Vermont on Friday afternoon, 2-1.

Sydney Meader got the scoring going early for the Black Bears as she scored her eighth goal of the season for the early 1-0 lead. Her score came on a great feed by
Bhreagh Kennedy (2).

Alina Gerka tied the contest up early in the third quarter as she scored her fifth of the season on a high shot into the upper corner of the goal. Sophia Drees (10) picked up the assist.

The Black Bears would retake the lead late into the fourth period as
Mallory Mackesy netted a goal into the upper left corner of the net to get her squad the lead. The score was her 10
th of the season.

Mia Borley put together a strong performance in net for the Black Bears as she stopped nine of 10 shots faced in the winning performance.

Maine (12-4, 6-0 AE) clinched home field for the America East Championships with the win over the Catamounts.
