PREVIEW: Women's Hoops heads to Hartford for midweek clash

Black Bears have won six-straight against the Hawks

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team looks to win its second-straight road game when it travels for a midweek showdown at Hartford on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. The Black Bears have won six in a row against Hartford, including three-straight on the road against the Hawks.

Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The game can also be heard worldwide on the Black Bear Sports Network and locally in Maine on 92.9 FM.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Anne Simon continues to lead the Black Bears as the junior guard as posted double-digit scoring totals in 11 of her first 12 games this season, including each of the last four. Simon ranks second in the America East in scoring at 16.3 points per game, and atop the leader board with 2.7 per outing. Alba Orois leads the America East in assists, ranking 53rd in the country, at 4.9 dimes per game. Orois, who has five or more assists in three of her last four games, has posted assist totals of five or more in six games. The sophomore point guard ranks 24th in the league in scoring (9.8) and has posted double-digit scoring totals in two of her last three games. Orois' 51.7 percent mark from the field is good for fifth best in the America East while she checks in tops in the league and sixth in the country at 38.3 minutes per game. Orois has just four turnovers in her last four games, including posting zero turnovers in back-to-back outings with Rhode Island and Dartmouth. Maeve Carroll ranks among the America East's top-15 leaders in seven categories. Carroll, who has posted double-figure rebound totals five times this season, leads the America East in rebounding at 9.1 per game, nearly averaging a double-double with 11.3 points. Carroll also checks in second in the league in blocks (1.3), seventh in assists (3.7) and 12th in field goal percentage (43.4). Maine has prided itself in ball control this season, ranking tops in the America East and 57th nationally with just 14.2 turnovers per game.

A LOOK AT HARTFORD:
The Hawks enter action in search of their first win of the season. Hartford ranks last in the America East in both scoring (54.2) and scoring defense (81.3) and have struggled to take care of the ball, averaging 21.8 turnovers per game. The Hawks, who shoot more three-point field goals than any other America East team (83/293 on the year), enter with a -6.4 turnover margin. Abby Streeter leads the Hawks at 11.1 points per game and is a significant threat from beyond the arc, shooting 45.1 percentage outside to lead the America East. Nina Farkic is adding 8.1 points and a team-high 2.6 assists while Sierra Smith leads the Hawks in rebounding with 6.3 boards per game.

SERIES WITH HARTFORD:
Maine and Hartford will meet for the 83rd time in history with the Black Bears holding a 53-29 advantage in the all-time series. Maine is 24-14 on the road against the Hawks and have won in 10 of its last 11 trips to Hartford. Maine swept Hartford on the road last season, winning by scores of 85-57 and 52-49. Maine has won in three-straight trips to Hartford. The Black Bears have won 13 of the last 14 meetings between the two teams, including each of the last six. The teams first met in 1985, a 71-53 victory by the Black Bears. Simon has recorded double-figure scoring efforts in each of her four outings against Hartford and enters play averaging 14.0 points in the series.
