Nick Sinacola named First Team All-American

Just the fourth Maine First Team selection ever, first since 1991

ORONO - Collegiate Baseball released their All-America selections on Thursday morning, with Nicholas Sinacola becoming just the fourth Black Bear ever to receive recognition as a First Team All-American.

Sinacola joins Rick Bernardo (1986), Andy Hartung (1990), and Mark Sweeney (1991) as the only First Team All-America selections in Maine baseball history, and the first All-American selection since Justin Courtney in 2015 (Rookie Team) and the first non-Rookie selection since Michael Fransoso in 2013 (Third Team).

Since the last First Team selection from Orono 20 years ago Maine has received 14 All-America Rookie Team selections, but just four All-American team selections. 1991 saw Mark Sweeney awarded first-team honors alongside Larry Thomas' Third Team selection, who set the previous Maine single season strikeout record that Sinacola shattered this season. Chad White earned Second Team recognition in 1993, followed by a long wait before Michael Fransoso earned Third Team honors in 2013.

One of just seven pitchers selected to the First Team, Sinacola leads the First Team in strikeouts with 139 strikeouts in just over 79 innings, just ahead of the Vanderbilt duo of Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter who both recorded 135 in 83 and 91 innings apiece.

After defeating top-seeded Stony Brook in the America East Tournament in his last appearance with seven dazzling innings, Sinacola's attention now turns to the MLB Draft scheduled for July 11th to the 13th.
