Durham, N.H. -- The University of Maine women's swimming & diving team opened its 2021 spring competition on Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire. The Black Bears dropped their season opening meet by a final score of 170-111.
The Black Bear scored four individual wins and a victory in the 200 freestyle relay during Saturday's competition.
Caroline Hargraves found the podium three times, including scoring a victory in the 200 IM with a winning time of 2:13.88. Strolic was the runner-up in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:01.67 and placed third in the 200 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:26.00.
Cam Hargraves also picked up an individual win, touching the wall first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.64. Hargraves also scored a third place finish in the 50 yard freestyle sprint at 25.69. In her debut meet,
Aubrey St. Pierre registered a pair of third place showings. St. Pierre placed third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.78) and the 200 yard IM (2:26.57).
Emily Ketch was the runner-up in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.95 while Syd Loper came in second in the 200 yard IM, touching the wall at 2:19.45. Loper also added a third place showing in the 200 backstroke with a final time of 2:19.09.
Maggie White paced Maine in the distance events, finishing third in the 1000 freestyle (10:52.92) while checking in fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:25.45).
Morgan Oehler placed third in the 200 yard freestyle at 2:02.48 and scored a fourth place finish in the 100 free at 56.33.
On the board,
PhilAnn Dixon took the gold in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events with scores of 249.90 and 236.32, respectively.
The team of
Delaney Willey, Hargraves, Oehler, and
Jennifer Prior won the 200 freestyle relay event with a winning time of 1:42.86. Strolic, St. Pierre, Hargraves, and Willey led Maine in the 200 yard medley relay with a third place finish at 1:52.00.
The Black Bears return to action on March 14 when they travel to Vermont for an America East showdown set to begin at noon.
