Swim & Dive teams ready to open competition at UNH, Providence

Women open action Saturday at UNH, Men travel to Providence on Sunday

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's and men's swimming and diving programs will open their spring competition season this weekend. The women will open their schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Hampshire while the men open their slate Sunday at noon at Providence College.

The women's meet can be viewed live at AmericaEast.TV. No streaming information for the men's competition is available at this time.

Women's competitors to watch:
  • Caroline Strolic - A senior captain and a versatile swimming who specializes in backstroke, breaststroke and the individual medley. Member of Maine's school record 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
  • PhilAnn Dixion - Junior diver who holds the school record on the 1-meter board.
  • Maggie White - Junior who begins the season as one of Maine's top distance competitions in the freestyle event.
  • Sarah Mansfield, Morgan Bui, Sydney Loper, and Kayla Loughman each had impressive freshman seasons and make up a talent sophomore class with a lot of depth in a variety of strokes.
  • Camryn Hargraves, who missed last season due to a knee injury, returns with significant potential to be a top competition for the Black Bears this season.
  • Newcomers to watch - Aubrey St. Pierre (breakstroke specialist), Lindsay Mathews (distance free, IM), and Rebecca Thompson (specialist in distance free and backstroke)
Men's competitors to watch:
  • Andy Sprague - A senior captain specializing in spring free and butterfly. Holds the school record in the 50 freestyle and four separate relay events.
  • Kazu Temple - Senior who specializes in the breaststroke and IM. Maine school record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke along with the 200 and 400 medley relays.
  • Jacob Ketch - Senior specializing in sprint free and butterfly. Member of Maine's school record 200 and 400 freestyle relay marks.
  • Liam Blair - Junior specializing in sprint free and backstroke. Member of school record 200 medley, 400 medley, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay teams.
  • Kevin Arpin - A sophomore who holds records in the 200 and 400 free relays along with the 400 medley relay. Specializes in freestyle.
  • Newcomers to watch - Max Ginsburg (sprint free and backstroke), and Zareck Tello (versatile swimmer, excels in numerous events).
