  • A win for Maine will also be its seventh win in its last nine outings. Both teams will enter the game after having the previous weekend off after Maine's scheduled bye and Villanova having its game at UNH canceled due to COVID-19 complications within the New Hampshire program.
  • Maine and Villanova will meet for the 11th consecutive season and in Orono for the first time since a 2018 contest won by Maine, 13-10. More recently, Villanova defeated the Black Bears, 33-17, in 2019 at Villanova Stadium. Maine is 6-5 on its home turf against the Wildcats. Villanova has won five of the last six meetings in the overall series. The two teams first met in 1988 a 20-17 Maine victory on the road. The Black Bears are 4-8 on the road in the all-time series with Villanova.
  • Last time out for Maine, the Black Bears outscored Stony Brook 28-6 in the second half to record a 35-19 win over the Seawolves. In the victory, Joe Fagnano registered five touchdowns (4 passing/1 rushing) for the second-straight game, with three of the touchdown tosses going to Andre Miller. Miller has now recorded three touchdowns in each of Maine's last two games. Defensively, Maine was able to record its first sacks of the season while also turning Stony Brook over once and holding the Seawoles to just six second half points. Over its current two game win streak, Maine is averaging 36.5 points and 396.5 yards of offense.
  • Villanova, who has not played a game since a March 13 overtime loss (40-37) to Rhode Island, opened its season with a 13-10 victory at Stony Brook. Dual-threat quarterback Daniel Smith, a transfer from Campbell University, guides the offense along with senior running back Justin Covington (75.5 yards per game). Smith ranks second in the CAA at 244.0 total yards of offense per game. The Wildcats boast the CAA's top passing offense (210.5) and rank third in rushing offense (210.0). Defensively, Villanova has been impressive against third down where it ranks second in the nation, allowing opponents to convert on just 17.6% of third down chances.
