GAME PREVIEW:
- Coming off its first victory of the 2021 spring season, Maine travels to Stony Brook for the eighth meeting between the two programs, and the first since 2017. The Black Bears currently hold a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series. Stony Brook captured a victory in the latest meeting, defeating Maine 20-19 in Orono back in 2017 on a 35-yard touchdown pass as time expired. Maine is 1-2 all-time on the road against the Seawolves and scored a 27-21 victory in its last trip to Long Island back in 2016. The two teams first met in 2007 when Stony Brook registered a 30-23 win in double overtime on its home turf.
- Maine hits the road after picking up its first win of the spring campaign. The Black Bears completed a 38-34 win over No. 13 UAlbany, their first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 3 Weber State in the 2018 FCS Quarterfinals. The win was an offensive slugfest as the Black Bears produced 412 total yards. Quarterback Joe Fagnano earned CAA Co-Player of the Week honors after tossing for 249 yards and four touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown, to lead the way in the victory. Andre Miller hauled in eight receptions for a career-high 144 yards and three touchdowns. After struggling to move the ball in the opener at Delaware, Maine was efficient in the home opener, going 8-of-13 on third down and 5-for-5 in the red zone.
- Stony Brook is in search of its first win of the 2021 spring season after falling to then No. 4 Villanova, 16-13, in the season opener and suffering a 31-3 setback last week at No. 19 Delaware. The Seawolves have struggled to move the ball this season as they rank 11th in the CAA in scoring (8.0 ppg) and 10th in total offense (257.5 ypg).
- Andre Miller is Maine's top receiving threat as he ranks third in the CAA in receiving yards (176), fourth in receiving yards per game (88.0), fourth in receptions per game (5.5), and leads all receivers in the league with three touchdown receptions. Miller's three touchdown receptions against UAlbany marked the first time a Maine player had hauled in three scores since Jaleel Reed did so in 2017 against Rhode Island.
- Deshawn Stevens has been impressive in his comeback tour. Stevens, who tore his Achilles in game one of the 2019 season, has produced double-digit tackling totals in each of his first two games back.
