Maine Baseball Officially Announces Three More Transfer Additions

ORONO - Head Coach Nick Derba announced another set of roster additions on Monday morning, as Maine Baseball adds three more players to their roster for the 2020-21 year.

A pair of outfielders will be joining the program, first with Jeff Mejia Jr. coming to Orono from Northern Essex Community College. The North Reading, Massachusetts native spent the last season playing for his father, Jeff Sr., after spending his first two seasons at America East-foe UMass-Lowell. In the summer of 2019, Mejia led the Elmira Pioneers of the Perfect Game League in batting average, on-base percentage, and stolen bases. In Orono, Mejia plans to study Finance.

The second outfielder joining the ranks is Zach Breeden of Lakeville, Minnesota. The 6'4, 205-lb outfielder spent the last two seasons at Southeastern Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska where he started in 60 games and held a career batting average of .298 and a career on-base percentage of .351. Zach plans to study History with a minor in Psychology at UMaine.

Rounding out the trio is Leif Bigelow, the 2018 USA Today Vermont High School Player of the Year and two-time All-State selection in the Green Mountain State. Bigelow spent his freshman season at the University of Connecticut, where he made his collegiate debut against the #1-ranked University of Michigan, with a career-high 3.2 innings pitched and picked up a pair of strikeouts in the showing. During the summer of 2019, Bigelow pitched for the Westfield Starfires in the Futures League where he made 18 appearances and three starts with 30 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work. Bigelow plans to study Communications.

The three added to the four previously announced transfers, as Maine Baseball loads up for the 2021 schedule. Stay tuned to GoBlackBears.com and @MaineBaseball for all the latest information on the program.
