Box Score ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team took the final game of the series against Providence, 2-1.
The first period found the Black Bears scoring an early goal in the first period for the second time on the weekend, this time it was by
Taylor Leech. Her second goal of the season came off of a rebound following the Tereza Vanisova (16) takeaway and shot getting saved by Friars goaltender Sandra Abstreiter.
The second period found Abstreiter holding the Black Bears scoreless, while
Carly Jackson continued her impressive performance, blanking the Friars offense for the second straight period.
The Black Bears would increase their lead to 2-0 in the third period as
Ali Beltz netted her sixth goal of the season. Beltz slipped a shot by Abstreiter with 13:02 left in the game.
Ida Kuoppala (11) and
Ebba Strandberg (4) picked up assists on the play.
The Friars would later on in the period put an end to Jackson's shutout bid as Lauren DeBlois fired a one-timer from the blue line to get her team on the board. Ariane Julien picked up the assist.
The score would remain at 2-1 as time expired in the third period.
Abstreiter would finish with 18 saves in the losing effort.
Carly Jackson finished with a more than impressive 43 saves in the winning performance.
Maine, who goes to 12-12-7 on the season, 8-10-6 HEAW, will return home for the final regular season matchup at Alfond Arena when they take on the Boston College Eagles on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15. Both games will begin at 2:00 P.M.
