Black Bears Host Binghamton in Annual #Play4Kay Pink Game

Maine looking for its third consecutive win

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team continues home play with its second game of a three-game home stretch when it hosts Binghamton on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. in a battle between the third (Maine) and fourth (Binghamton) ranked teams in the league, for the annual Play4Kay Pink Game. Maine, 23-15 all-time against the Bearcats, will look to avenge a 73-63 loss earlier this season at Binghamton. Maine is 13-5 all-time on its home court against Binghamton. The contest will feature the top-two 3-point shooting teams in the America East with Maine averaging 7.5 makes from long-distance per game and Binghamton checking in at 6.8.

Tickets are still available for Sunday's game and may be purchased at TicketMaster.com or by visiting the Cross Insurance Center box office.

For those unable to make it to Sunday's contest, the game will be streamed at ESPN+ and also broadcast via radio on 96.1 WGUY-FM in the Bangor area and worldwide at GoBlackBears.com.

Sunday marks UMaine's ninth annual Play4Kay Pink Game, a fundraiser in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. All funds collected online will go directly to support cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Over the past eight years, UMaine and the generous community of Black Bear fans have joined together to raise over $40,000 towards the cause. During Sunday's game, the Black Bears will once again be wearing their special edition, pink jerseys to help raise awareness of breast cancer and support the research being done worldwide to help fight this disease.

OVERVIEW:
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine will look to stretch its winning streak to three-straight after completing a season sweep of Vermont with a 70-59 victory on Wednesday evening. In the win, Maeve Carroll finished with her sixth career double-double, and second of the year against Vermont, with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Reigning America East Rookie of the Week, Anne Simon, added a game-high 22 points as the Black Bears moved to 22-1 in its last 23 home conference games.

With double-digit scoring performances in each of her last four outings, Dor Saar, who ranks second among league leaders in 3-point field goals made per game (2.5), leads the Black Bears into action as she ranks 11th in the league at 11.7 points per game. Saar, who has played all 40-minutes of game action in each of her last nine outings, leads the nation in total minutes at 921:10 while ranking sixth in minutes per game (38:38). Saar has registered five or more assists in eight games this season while checking in second among America East assists leaders at 4.4 per game. Maeve Carroll has tallied five double-doubles against America East competition this season and is averaging 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds through 10 league games. Overall, Carroll checks in with 10.9 points per game while ranking third in the league at 7.5 rebounds. Four-time America East Rookie of the Week Anne Simon leads all America East rookies in scoring at 11.7 points per game. Simon, with double-digit scoring efforts in 10 of her last 12 outings, leads the Black Bears at 15.2 points per game against America East foes. Maddy McVicar is adding a consistent 8.7 points per game while checking in ninth among league leaders in 3-point field goals made per game (1.5). Kelly Fogarty has been Maine's most consistent 3-point threat, checking in fourth in the league from beyond the arc at 36.3-percent and fifth in triples made per game (2.2).

Maine's 3-point offense continues to be its focus, ranking 12th nationally in attempts from beyond the arc (564), 17th in makes (181) and 58th in 3-point field goals made per game (7.5) - all America East highs. Through 10 league games, Maine ranks second in the conference in league-only scoring at 66.1 points per game while shooting a league-high 35.7 (80-224) from downtown, averaging 8.0 triples per game in league play.

A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON:
The Bearcats come into town riding a three-game win streak after most recently scoring a 58-42 road victory on Wednesday evening at UAlbany. In that win, the Bearcats were led by Kai Moon's game-high 23 points. Moon leads the conference in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game, 11th best in the nation. Moon also leads the America East in 3-point shooting, averaging 3.1 per game, while ranking second from the free throw stripe (81.8). Her 67 overall triples made this season are eight-most in the nation. On the defensive end, Moon is tops in the league in steals per game at 2.3. Carly Boland is also averaging double-figures, ranking 17th among league leaders in scoring at 10.8 points per game.

The Bearcats lead the league in scoring at 68.4 points per game and overall 3-point percentage (34.9). Binghamton's aggressive play allows it to get the free throw line at a high-rate, leading to a league-best 76.5-percent at the charity stripe. The Bearcats also do an impressive job in taking care of the ball, ranking first in the league in turnover margin (+2.82) with just 13.5 giveaways per game.

SERIES WITH BINGHAMTON:
Maine and Binghamton will meet for the 40th time with the Black Bears holding a 24-15 advantage. Maine, which has won 13 of the last 16 meetings, holds a 13-5 advantage on its home court in the series and have won five of the last six meetings in Bangor. The Bearcats scored a 73-63 victory in the first meeting between the two clubs this season. In that game, Anne Simon exploded for career-highs in points, 28, and rebounds, 11 while Maeve Carroll (13) and Kelly Fogarty (!0) each also added double-digit scoring performances. Maine and Binghamton first met in 2001, a 63-62 overtime victory by the Black Bears.
