Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Huskies in Close Game

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to the Huskies of UConn, 2-1.

 

The first period found the Huskies striking the lone goal of the period. Savannah Bouzide scored her fifth goal of the season on the power play to give UConn the early 1-0 lead. Danielle Fox (7) picked up the assist.

 

Carly Jackson for the Black Bears would end the period with nine saves, while Samantha Carpentier-Yelle finished with seven.

 

Maine would answer back in the second period, as Ida Kuoppala scored her 11th goal of the season on the breakaway started by Liga Miljone (13). Kuoppala took the feed from Miljone and rocketed a shot past Carpentier-Yelle, tying the game at 1-1.

 

It would be the Huskies who would get the final goal of the night however. Taylor Wabick scored her fourth goal of the season with just under ten minutes remaining in the third period, to give the Huskies the 2-1 victory. Morgan Wabick (8) picked up the assist.

 

Carly Jackson ended the night with 21 saves for the Black Bears in the narrow defeated. Samantha Carpentier-Yelle picked up 26 saves for her team in the victory.

 

Maine, who falls to 10-11-5, 6-9-4 Hockey East, will face off against the Huskies for the third and final time of the regular season on Saturday, January 25. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
