Black Bears Continue Road Trip Saturday at Binghamton

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team continues its three-game road trip as it searches for its first league road win when it visits Binghamton on Saturday for a noon tip-off. Maine is 24-14 all-time against the Bearcats but the series has been virtually even in Binghamton with Maine holding a slight, 11-10 advantage after scoring a 67-60 road win a year ago. Maine has won three in a row overall against Binghamton and been victorious in two consecutive road trips against the Bearcats.

OVERVIEW:
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Through five league games, the Black Bears lead the America East in conference only scoring, averaging 68.0 points per game against league competition. Maeve Carroll has led the Black Bears offensively in league play, ranking in the top-10 among league leaders in America East action in terms of scoring (6th - 15.4) and rebounding (6th - 8.6) with three double-doubles. Overall, the Black Bears are led offensively by Dor Saar who checks in at 10.9 points per game through 19 contests. Saar ranks second in the America East at 4.5 assists per game, with five or more assists in six games including two double-digit assist performances. Saar is the nation's leader in total minutes played (721:10) and has tallied 40 or more minutes in nine games this season, including each of her last four. Saar has also been a threat from outside this season, ranking seventh in the nation in 3-point attempts (141) and fourth in the conference with 2.4 triples made per game. Freshman Anne Simon is adding 10.4 points per game with double-digit performances in nine of her last 11 outings. Over her last 11 outings, Simon has nearly doubled her points per game average, going from 5.5 to 10.4 in the span. Defensively, Simon ranks eighth-best in the league with 1.6 steals. Carroll leads Maine's rebounding efforts, pulling down 7.8 boards per game with five double-figure rebounding performances this season, including in three of her last four games. Maddy McVicar, who averaged 2.2 points per game over her first three seasons at Maine, is adding 9.0 points and a 12.8 mark against league foes. McVicar, who has scored in double-digits in four of her last five games, is shooting 96.0-percent from the free throw line this season. Kelly Fogarty, rounding out Maine's five scorers who are averaging double-digits in conference play, is adding 10.0 points per game in league play while ranking second overall in the league from 3-point range (38.7) with 2.2 triples made per game.

Maine's 3-point offense ranks highly on the national level. The Black Bears are seventh in the nation in 3-point attempts (455), 15th in 3-point field goals made (144) and check in 59th overall at 7.6 triples made per contest; all tops in the America East. Maine has also been impressive from the free throw line where it ranks second in the league at a 73.9-percent clip. Defensively, Maine ranks fourth-best among the America East in scoring defense (63.3) and fourth in steals per game (6.9).

A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON:
After beginning the season 10-0, the Bearcats have began conference play just 1-3 after suffering recent loses to UMass Lowell (66-56) and at Vermont (65-62). Binghamton enters play 6-1 on its home court and is led by Kai Moon who leads the America East in scoring, ranking 17th in the nation at 20.2 points per game. Moon, the league leader in 3-point field goals made per game (2.94), has posted double-digits in 16 of Binghamton's 17 contests this season, besting 20 points on 10 occasions. Moon has done significant damage offensively from the free throw line, leading the conference at 80.6-percent at the stripe (87-108). Carly Boland ranks 12th in the league in scoring (11.8) and leads the Bearcats with a 3.1 assists per game. Annie Ramil ranks fifth in the conference in rebounding (7.1). The Bearcats enter as the league's leading offense, averaging 68.9 points per game through their first 17 outings with an impressive 40.8-percent shooting mark from the floor and league-highs from 3-point range (33.4) and the free throw line (77.5).
 
SERIES WITH BINGHAMTON:
Maine and Binghamton will meet for the 39th time with the Black Bears holding a 24-14 advantage. Maine, which has won 13 of the last 15 meetings, holds a slim 11-10 advantage on the road with Binghamton in the series. The Black Bears have won in two-straight trips to Binghamton, including a 67-60 victory in last year's regular season finale. Maine and Binghamton first met in 2001, a 63-62 overtime victory by the Black Bears.

Saar, averaging 6.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in four meetings with the Bearcats, has tallied 11 points in each of her last two outings against Binghamton.
