ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's swimming and diving team dropped its home meet to Providence by a score of 180-108 on Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears captured four individual wins and a relay victory against the Friars.
Andy Sprague and
Coulter Morrill led the Black Bears' efforts, each capturing a win and a runner-up finish. Sprague won the 50-yard freestyle event at 21.84 and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.39. Morrill touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.26 and was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:14.85.
Ben Sturgis swept the diving events, placing first in the 1-meter with a score of 208.35 and a first-place mark of 223.13 on the board in the 3-meter event.
Conor Hughes tallied a pair of third-place finishes in the distance events, touching the wall in 10:17.92 in the 1000-yard freestyle while adding a time of 4:57.86 in the 500-yard free.
Dalton Sousa also garnered two bronze finishes. Sousa was third in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:02.68 and also placed third in the 200-yard IM at 2:01.02.
Kevin Kane was the runner-up in the 200-yard fly at 2:01.15 while
Cameron Kubik added a second place showing in the 100-yard freestyle at 49.00.
Kubik, Morrill, Sprague and
Jacob Ketch teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle with a final time of 1:28.46. The team of Sprague, Ketch,
Hayden Kasavicha and Kazy Temple combined to place second in the 200-yard medley relay at 1:38.49.

Maine returns to action on when it travels to Worcester, Mass. for the four-day America East Championships, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 14.
