ORONO, Maine—The UMaine women's ice hockey team returns home for a key weekend against the UConn Huskies in WHEA play.

About the Black Bears
• Maine dropped both games against Merrimack in North Andover, falling 3-0 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday.  
• The Black Bears return home after two weeks on the road at Holy Cross and Merrimack in conference competition. Maine has scored six goals in January's four road games.
• Maine opened up the year at home against Boston University, taking a 1-0 win before falling in the second game.
• At the Alfond, the Black Bears are 7-4-1 overall, scoring 43 goals in the 12 games at home. Maine has had three 8-0 wins at home this season.
• Goaltender Carly Jackson has had two shutouts this month, posting zeroes against Boston University in a 3-0 victory on Jan. 6 and again at Holy Cross in a 3-0 win on Jan. 13.
• Maine is 13-10-2 overall this season, with a 6-10-2 record in conference.
 
About the Huskies
• UConn dropped last weekend's home-and-home series with Northeastern, ending their six-game winning streak.
• In the first game, the Huskies ended the first period with a 2-1 lead before giving up four unanswered goals. In the second game, UConn outshot NU, but surrendered an early lead they couldn't regain, including giving up a shorthanded goal to Tessa Ward.
• Natalie Snodgrass, the team's leading goal scorer and point scorer, was kept off the scoreboard for the first time in six games. In all but two wins this season against Providence on Dec. 1 and Oct. 13 against Holy Cross, Snodgrass has gotten a point in a Huskies victory.
• Three players are tied in the assists column for UConn, with Catherine Crawley, Briana Colangelo and Viki Harkness are tied with 13 assists. Taylor Wabick, with 11 assists and Morgan Wabick with 10 assists are other Huskies with at least ten assists this year.
• Morgan Fisher has appeared in 21 contests in net for UConn this year, holding an 10-10-1 record. Her 2.29 GAA is eighth in the conference and .922 save percentage is seventh in the conference.
• UConn has a 2.64 goals per game average this year and have been outscored by conference opponents, giving up 49 goals to the Huskies' 43 goals.
• The Terriers are 6th in Women's Hockey East with 17 points with eight wins and one tie.
 
The Series with UConn
• Friday's game between UConn and Maine is the 56th all-time meeting between the two Hockey East squads with UConn holding the 33-16-7 all time lead.
• The teams faced off earlier this season, with UConn taking a 4-1 victory in Storrs, Conn. The Black Bears outshot the Huskies 33-23, and had a goal by Lydia Murray.
• Last season's series Maine went 1-2-0 against UConn, with two contests finishing in overtime.
• The last time these teams faced off in Orono was on Nov. 12, 2017, where Maine won 4-3 in overtime on a goal by Michelle Weis.
• These two teams first met on Jan. 6, 2000 in Orono with Maine taking a 4-2 win.

Rewriting Records
• Tereza Vanisova, with 46 career goals is tied for fourth place on the all-time program leaders list, alongside Tristan Desmet '05. With 47 goals, Vanisova will hold sole possession of fourth place.
• Ahead of Vanisova on the all-time goals list is Raffi Wolf '03 with 55 goals for third all-time, Meagan Aarts '04 with 61 goals for second all-time, and Karen Droog '04 with 74 goals for the program lead in career tallies.
• Vanisova currently holds third place in career points with 93. Ahead of her are Vanessa Vani '09 with 99 points, and both Meagan Aarts '04 and Karen Droog '04 who are tied for the program lead with 115 points.
• Vanisova is also climbing up the leaderboard for career assists as well. She is currently tied with Brigitte LaFlamme '07 for third-most assists with 47. She trails Meagan Aarts '04 with 54 assists and program leader Vanessa Vani '09 with 63 career assists.
• Alyson Matteau is now second place in all-time career scoring by a defenseman with 57 points. The all-time leader spot is currently held by Kelly Nelson '02 with 66 career points.
• Celine Tedenby (8-11-19) is currently five points away from tying the fifth spot for points in a season by a rookie, currently held by Vanessa Vani '09 with 24 points.
 
On the Leaderboard
• Tereza Vanisova is tied for fifth in conference goal scoring with 14 tallies through 22 games this season.
• Alyson Matteau leads the conference in blocked shots with 84 blocks, 24 more than the next player in the conference.
• Celine Tedenby is tied for 17th in Hockey East in overall points with 19 in 22 games, and is third in conference freshmen scoring.
• Carly Jackson is No. 6 for Hockey East for both goals against average at 1.89 mark and .927% save percentage.
• Maine's offense is No. 18 in the nation with 2.60 goals per game, with the nation's No. 12 defense, with a 1.92 team goals against.
 
Comparing the Conference
• First place Northeastern is pulling ahead with 32 points, holding a 15-2-2 record.
• Boston University is creeping up the leaderboard and currently sit in third place, with a 10-5-4 record and 24 points.
• Three WHEA teams are in the top ten in the weekly polls. Northeastern is at No. 3/3, Boston College at No. 9/9 and Boston University at No. 10/10. Providence, previously ranked, is now receiving votes.
• Maine sits in seventh with a 6-10-2 conference record, with 14 points in the standings.
• The Black Bears are three points behind UConn for sixth place (17 points), are one point head of UNH (13 points) two points ahead of ninth place Vermont (12 points).
