PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UMaine men's swimming and diving team finished the regular season with a dual meet against Provdience at Taylor Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Maine men fell to the BIG EAST foe Friars by a score of 177-111.
The Black Bears opened the meet with a victory in the 200m medley relay, with Maine's 'A' team of
Hayden Kasavicha,
Jack McNamara,
Kevin Clyne, and
Jacob Ketch taking first with a time of 1:48.09 to give Maine 11 points.
In the 200m freestyle relay, the group of Clyne, Ketch,
Andy Sprague, and
Coulter Morrill took second place with a time of 1:39.09.
Kyle Adams won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, besting teammate
Ben Sturgis with scores of 235.65 in the 3-meter and 265.57 on the 1-meter.
Along with being a member of both relay teams, Clyne placed second in the 100m butterfly (59.12), and third in the 50m freestyle (24.64).
In two individual events,
Alexander Penn recorded a time of 1:59.82 for a second place finish, and took third in the 100m freestyle with a time of 54.02.
Kazu Temple earned runner up in two events on the day; recording times of 1:08.29 in the in the 100m breaststroke, and a 2:14.11 in the 200m individual medley. Temple also placed third in the 200m medley relay (1:51.11).
Along with being the anchor 200m freestyle relay, Morrill took second in the 200m breaststroke, finishing just ahead of Temple by registering a time of 2:29.07.
Alexander Watson finished as a runner-up in the 800m freestyle, with a time of 9:09.70 to wrap up Maine's top performers.
Both the women and men's swimming and diving teams are back in action the weekend of Feb. 15, when the Black Bears head to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to compete in the America East Championships.
