ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears take a conference break before hosting UMBC this coming weekend with a midweek matchup with Colby College. The game that was originally scheduled for April 26th will take place Wednesday at 5pm, on the evening of Maine Day. The Black Bears come in at 15-23 overall, while the Mules come in 10-22-1.
Last Time Out
The Black Bears were swept by conference foe Stony Brook over the weekend, putting them at 3-9Â in conference on the season. The Seawolves took both games in the double header on Saturday, 6-3 in game one and 4-3 in game two, and took the Sunday matchup with a 12-6 final. Saturday saw three Black Bear home runs, from Tyler Schwanz and Cody Pasic in game one, and Brandon Vicens in game two.Â
Maine So Far
The Black Bears are led by Junior Catcher Chris Bec, who has a team-high .366 batting average and 52 hits. Sophomore shortstop Jeremy Pena has been swinging the bat well as of late, he's second on the team in RBIs with 21, chipping in with a .284 batting average. Senior right-fielder Tyler Schwanz has hit a team-high four home runs this season, he is batting .252 on the season. He now holds the team-high for RBI's with 22. Freshman first-baseman Hernen Saridinas has made his presence known in his first year in the America East, as he leads the team in conference batting average at .341 with seven doubles and four RBIs.
Scouting the Mules
The Mules come into this matchup as their third to last game of the season, facing off with Amherst this weekend. They enter in with a 3-9 conference record. They come in with a team batting average by .262, led by Junior Outfielder Ben Coleman, with a .349 batting average, and Junior Outfielder Matt Treveloni, with a .342 average, and a team-high 39 hits. Sophomore Infielder Tyler Mulberry comes into the game leading the team in RBIs with 17 and 10 doubles on the season.Â
