ORONO, Maine - After playing a four-game non-conference series with Manhattan College, the Black Bears will host a pair of other Maine-based collegiate programs, Thomas College on Tuesday afternoon and UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday.

The Black Bears recently wrapped up a four-game series with the Manhattan College Jaspers, winning three of the four including a day two double header sweep, seeing wins on the weekend from pitchers Justin Courtney, Cody Laweryson, and John Arel. The Black Bears hit three home runs in the final game of the series, one by Jeremy Pena and Tyler Schwanz to tie the game in the first, and one from Caleb Kerbs later in the game to add insurance to Maine's eventual 10-6 win.
A Look at Maine
The Black Bears come into this mid-week series with a 12-17 record, and are so far on a hot streak in April, winning six of their last eight games. They are led by Junior Catcher Chris Bec who has a team-high .385 batting average and 42 hits, and Senior outfielder Tyler Schwanz, who is batting .282 and leads the team with three home runs on the season. Sophomore short stop Jeremy Pena has been swinging the bat well recently, as he leads the team with 16 RBI's on the season, including seven on eight hits in the series with Manhattan. On the pitching side, Junior RHP Justin Courtney and Freshman RHP Cody Laweryson both lead the team with three wins apeice (Courtney 3-3, Laweryson 3-1).
Scouting Thomas College
The Terriers come into their match up with the Black Bears with a 3-23 record overall, 3-11 in conference, coming into the game off a loss to Bowdoin on Monday night, 11-4. They are led by Darren Kelly who leads the teams in batting average with .377 and in hits with 23. Alex Curtis has 14 RBIs, the most on the team, and is batting .313 on the year. All three of Thomas College's wins belong to one pitcher, Matt Rutherford, who holds a 7.54 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched.Â
Scouting UMaine Farmington
The Beavers will come to Orono Wednesday night with a 2-14 record after losing to Colby on Monday evening 7-4. They are 2-6 in conference so far this season. Derek Bowen leads the team in hits with 19 on a team-high .373 batting average, as well as a team-high 10 RBIs. UMF's two wins belong to Riley Chickering (5.79 ERA, 23.1 IP, 1-2 record) and Ryan Pratt (6.17 ERA, 11.2 IP, 1-2 record)
