ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team (14-13, 7-5) goes for its third consecutive win as it hosts Stony Brook (10-14, 3-8) in America East action at the Cross Insurance Center on Sunday at 1 PM. The contest is Maine's annual Play4Kay game in which the Black Bears will be donning their special pink jerseys and raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

PLAY4KAY:
On Sunday, the Black Bears will host their sixth annual Play4Kay Pink Game, a fundraiser to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine enters action coming off its seventh-straight home win after it defeated UMass Lowell by a score of 76-50 on Thursday evening. Maine outscored UMass Lowell 31-3 on points off turnovers as the Black Bears forced 24 River Hawks giveaways. The Black Bears were impressive with taking care of the ball on their side, turning it over just three times through three quarters before ending with eight mishaps. It marked the second time this season Maine has limited itself to under 10 turnovers. Individually,
Sigi Koizar led the way with 16 points while
Anita Kelava turned in a career-high 14 points effort. All 13 Black Bears scored in the meeting.
Koizar, who has tallied double-digit scoring performances in 14 games this season, leads Maine at 12.6 points per game; good for eighth best in the America East. With four 3-pointers against UMass Lowell, Koizar surpassed Missy Traversi and moved into third place on Maine's all-time 3-point list (176). Koizar has been Maine's bright spot from the free throw line where she checks in third among league leaders at 80.0% and ranks fifth in 3-point field goals (1.9 per game) with a total of 45.
Laia Sole continues to roll through conference action in just her first season as a Black Bear. Sole, who is averaging 10.3 points overall, ranks 10th in the America East in conference only scoring, averaging 12.7 points. Sole, checking in with 4.8 rebounds in league play, ranks third with a 52.0% mark from the field against America East opponents.
Blanca Millan, averaging 8.6 points overall, has also stepped up her game in league action. Millan ranks 17th in conference only scoring (10.7), sixth from the floor (49.0) and 12th from 3-point range (33.3). Defensively, Millan leads Maine with 49 steals.
Julie Brosseau is the leading deep threat for a Maine team which is shooting 30.7% from beyond the arc. Brosseau leads Maine with 50 makes from 3-point range and ranks 12th in the league with a 33.3% mark.
Maine, winners of three of its last four, is limiting opponents to just 58.0 points per game overall and rank second in the league in conference defense at 54.5 points allowed. The Black Bears check in third among league leaders with a 40.6% mark from the floor. Maine's 173 makes from 3-point range are second in the league and its 564 total attempts from outside are 40th best in the nation.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK:
The Seawolves recently snapped a six-game losing skid with an 86-44 win at UMass Lowell back on Monday, Feb. 6. Stony Brook was led by four double-digit scorers in the win, highlighted by Davion Wingate's 21 points. Stony Brook is second in the league on the defensive end, allowing just 57.0 points per game and leads the league in 3-point defense (26.6%).
Wingate ranks 11th in the league in both scoring (11.9) and steals (1.7). Senior Kory Bayne-Walker ranks 15th in the league at 11.0 points per game, seventh in field goal percentage (46.5) and fourth in assists (4.4). Christa Scognamiglio leads Stony Brook in rebounding at 5.6 per game while averaging 8.0 points per game. The Seawolves are 3-8 on the road this season, including a 1-5 conference road mark.
A GLIMPSE INTO THE SERIES:
Maine and Stony Brook will be meeting for the 37th time in history dating back to 2001. The Black Bears have won five of the last six meetings. The all-time series is knotted at 18-18. Earlier this season, Stony Brook defeated Maine 55-41. Maine carried a 31-28 lead into the half but were held to just 10 total second half points.
