GAME STORYLINES
- Maine and Stony Brook meet today for just the seventh time. The Black Bears currently hold a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series and have won two in a row, including a 27-21 victory a year ago at Stony Brook. Maine is a perfect 3-0 in Orono against the Seawolves, defeating Stony Brook 23-10 in the last meeting between the two at UMaine. Maine and Stony Brook have met every year since the Seawolves joined the CAA in 2013. The Black Bears lost the first-ever meeting, 30-23 in double overtime, back in 2007.
- Stony Brook enters play on a four-game winning streak and has an opportunity to nab at least a share of the CAA title with a victory and a James Madison loss. The Seawolves' lone CAA loss came against Delaware (24-20) back on Oct. 7. Stony Brook's defense ranks 15th in the nation, allowing just 310-yards per game.
- A key for today's game will be the battle on the ground. Maine's Josh Mack enters as the FCS leader in rush yards per game (140.2) and stands just seven yards behind Campbell's Daniel Smith (1,269) for the nation's lead in rush yards. However, Smith has played two more games than Mack. Against five of the CAA's top-6 rush defenses, Mack is averaging 109.2 yards with two touchdowns. Mack will face a Stony Brook rush defense which ranks 13th in the nation, allwoing 96.9 yards per game. Mack continues to climb the single-season rushing ranks at Maine. He enters play just 22-yards out of fourth all-time (1,284) and 144 back from the third highest rush season (1,406). Both marks were previously set by Marcus Williams.
- The Black Bears are looking to snap a two-game losing skid after setbacks to Delaware and a most recent loss to FBS member UMass, 44-31, at Fenway Park. In that game, Earnest Edwards returned a kickoff 95-yards to help him earn the CAA Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
- A win over No. 12 Stony Brook would be the highest ranked team the Black Bears have defeated since a 33-20 win over No. 8 Richmind back in 2014.
- Maine's pass defense, which enters allowing 200.1 yards per game, will look to limit Stony Brook receiver Ray Bolden who ranks sixth in the nation with seven receiving TDs.
A UMAINE WIN WOULD...
