ORONO, Maine – Maine women's ice hockey defeated their second nationally ranked opponent this season after capturing a 5-2 victory over No. 10 Robert Morris (RMU) last Saturday. The Black Bears ended up splitting the weekend with RMU to advance their overall record to 4-2-0. Maine will be hosting Boston University (BU) for their first Hockey East conference game of the season on Friday, October 20 at 2 p.m.

The Terriers opened up their season with a slow start, dropping their first three games. In the last series they played, BU took Northeastern into overtime, tied 2-2- at the end of regulation time with goals from freshmen Kristina Schuler and Nara Elia for their first NCAA points. Sophomore Abbey Stanley also delivered a strong performance in the same match, passing off the puck for each goal to currently lead her team with two assists this season.
Senior Erin O'Neil started in net in all three games this season, notching 96 saves for a .906 save percentage. Overall in her career, she's accumulated a total of 1542 saves throughout 58 games with a 30-18-5 record. Out of the 58 games O'Neil saw playing time, she started in 54 of them.

In her first collegiate start, freshman goaltender Loryn Porter cleared the ice for the Black Bears, turning away 38 shots on Saturday to help Maine capture a 5-2 victory over No. 10 Robert Morris, after dropping the match on Friday evening, 2-1.Senior Catherine Tufts attempted to rally the team as she netted the single goal for the Black Bears in the final period of Friday night's match.
Maine redeemed themselves the next day with huge contributions from sophomore Tereza Vanisova racking in two goals and two assists, freshman Daria Tereshkina grabbing her first collegiate goal and two assists, along with senior Brooke Stacey sending two into the back of the net plus one assist. Senior Kristin Gilmour passed out assists in both games. In both matches, goaltenders Carly Jackson and Porter held RMU scoreless into the third period.
