Women's Hoops hits the road to meet Binghamton

Maine looking for its ninth-straight win in the series with Binghamton

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine, coming off a big victory over defending champion UAlbany, heads back out on the road to take on Binghamton Saturday at 2 p.m. The Black Bears have won their last eight meetings with the Bearcats.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The incredible success for Maine at home continued when it battled back from down 12 to defeat UAlbany by a score of 84-71 back on Jan. 22 in a rematch of last season's America East Championship game. Maine, which assisted on 26 of its 31 field goals, was led by Blanca Millan's career-high 26 points. Laia Sole came off the bench to match a career-high by pouring in 21 points to help give Maine its 18th-straight home conference victory. The 84 points were a season-high for the Black Bears.

Sigi Koizar, who recently moved past former teammate Liz Wood for seventh on Maine's all-time scoring list (1,482), snapped a four-game streak of not scoring double-digits with a 14 points outing against UAlbany. Koizar is seventh in the league at 13.0 points per game and continues to connect at a high rate from the free throw line, ranking fifth in America East at 81.1%. Koizar's 32 makes from downtown (1.7 per game), rank her eighth in the league. Laia Sole has tallied double-digits in four of her last seven games and checks in at 9.8 points per game with a 45.7% shooting mark. In league play, Sole ranks 11th in scoring (12.9). Blanca Millan, who has led the Black Bears in scoring in the last three outings, has tallied 20+ in two of her last three and is averaging 19.7 points in her last three games. Overall, Millan is averaging 8.9 points but has really turned it on in conference action. Over her first seven league games, Millan ranks ninth in scoring (13.0), second in field goal percentage (56.3) with 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals. Defensively, Millan has been a force at the top of the zone, ranking eighth with 38 steals (1.7 per game). Tanesha Sutton is averaging 7.4 points and is Maine's leader in rebounding (5.0) and assists (2.8) Sutton has been a force on the offensive glass, ranking tied for fourth with 45 total offensive boards. Julie Brosseau is Maine's threat from beyond the arc, ranking seventh with 1.9 makes per game and 11th at 36.2%.

Maine, which has limited eight opponents to 50 points or less, rank 51st in the country and third in America East at 58.6 points per game allowed. Maine's 303 assists lead the America East and place them 56th in the nation. Maine, which has made 135 shots from beyond the arc, rank 39th in the nation with 445 attempts from 3-point range.

SCOUTING BINGHAMTON:
The Bearcats began conference play 3-0 but have since dropped three out of their last four including an overtime loss at Hartford on Wednesday evening. Alyssa James led the way in the loss with 18 points while Imani Watkins added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Outside threat Jasmine Sina hit five 3-pointers on her way to 17 points.

Watkins is second in the league, and 32nd nationally, at 18.8 points per game, and ranks 21st in all of NCAA averaging 37.3 minutes per game. Watkins, who also leads the Bearcats in assists (3.4), is the league's leader in steals at 2.3 per game. Alyssa James is the team's leading rebounder (6.7) and is adding 11.4 points. Jasmine Sina is the deep threat for the Bearcats. Sina leads the America East in 3-point makes (52), 3-point makes per game (2.74) and is third in 3-point percentage (38.2). Sina is averaging 11.5 points. Sina and Watkins have each attempted 153 shots from 3-point range; leading the league in the category.

Binghamton's key to offense is beyond the arc. As a team, the Bearcats are the league's leader in 3-point makes (155); averaging 7.8 per game. Binghamton (466) and Maine (445) are first and second in the league in 3-point attempts. The Bearcats, who shoot 33.3% from beyond the arc, lead the league in blocks (4.7) and rank second at +3.75 in turnover margin, forcing 18.1 per game.

A GLIMPSE INTO THE SERIES:
Maine and Binghamton will be meeting for the 31st time. The Black Bears currently hold an 18-12 advantage in the all-time series. Maine has won each of the last eight meetings, including a 69-37 victory in last year's regular season finale. In its last trip to Binghamton, the Black Bears came away with a 52-38 win. Over the past two meetings, Maine has limited Binghamton to 37.5 points per game. The Black Bears are 8-8 all-time on the road against Binghamton and have won five in a row on the road against the Bearcats. Prior to the win wins, Maine lost seven-straight in Binghamton. Sigi Koizar has produced double-digits in each of her last three meetings in the series and four of her games with the Bearcats.
