Box Score HEMPSTEAD, New York -- Maine Field hockey defeated Hofstra 4-1 Friday afternoon. The Black Bears are 3-0 on the season, the second year in a row that Maine has started the season 3-0. Hofstra falls to 1-2 on the year.

Madison Cummings had two goals on the day,
Danielle Aviani had a total of four points scored (one goal and two assists).

Emma Cochran started in goal for the Black Bears and Lauren Saltus for the Pride.

For the third game to start the season, Maine opened with the first goal of the game ten minutes into the first half.
Madison Cummings scored her fourth goal of the season from
Danielle Aviani as Maine jumped out ot a 1-0 lead.

One minute later off of a Hofstra turnover,
Sydney Veljacic led
Danielle Aviani with a perfect pass that set up a one on one opportunity with the goalie. Aviani was able to beat the goalie for her first goal of the season as Maine took a 2-0 advantage.

The Black Bears had 10 shots in the first half to Hofstra's three.

Emily Corbett started in goal for Maine and Carys Swan started for the Pride also in goal in the second half.

Hofstra broke through for their first goal of the game four minutes into the second half. Madison Sauve scored her third goal of the season from a deflection with the assist from Stella Schoen. The Pride cut Maine's lead in half, 2-1.

54 minutes into the game,
Madison Cummings scored her second goal of the game and her fifth of the season. It is the second multi-goal game that Cummings has had this season. The Black Bears took a 3-1 advantage.

With two minutes remaining in the game, America East rookie of the week
Brianna Ricker scored her third goal of the season after a cross from Aviani set up the freshman for her third goal of the season, giving Maine a 4-1 lead.

Emma Cochran earned the win and is now 2-0 on the year. Lauren Saltus received the loss.
Maine returns to action Monday at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex as they host Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m.
