Women's Soccer Handed First Loss by Providence

Box Score SACO, Maine - The University of Maine Women's Soccer team was dealt their first loss of the season by Providence College, 1-0 at Thorton Academy in Saco, Maine.

Providence took control early in the game, outshooting the Black Bears 9-3 in the first half. Their lone goal came 37:21 into the game from Kathryn Hiller, scoring her third goal of the season; she leads Providence in goals scored.

In the second half Maine came out determined to even the shot count, outshooting Providence 12-2 in an attempt to tie the game, but couldn't get one past Providence Goalkeeper Kristyn Shea, who saved all 8 shots on goal. She picked up her first win and first shutout of the season. Providence would hold on to that 1-0 lead in the second half to give them their first win of the season. Maine Goalkeeper Annalena Kriebisch saved 3 of 4 shots on net, her record falls to 3-1-0 on the season. 

The Black Bears will travel to Amherst, MA for their next game against UMass on Sep 3, kickoff is at 12:30pm.
