Gameday Central: Football Goes for Fifth Straight Win Saturday at William & Mary

Black Bears returning to William & Mary for first time since 2012, have won two-straight against the Tribe

Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine football team (4-3, 3-1 CAA) goes for its fifth consecutive victory on Saturday when it travels to take on William & Mary (3-4, 1-3 CAA) at 3:30 PM.

GAME STORYLINES:
  • Maine (4-3, 3-1 CAA) looks for its first five-game winning streak since 2013 when it faces William and Mary (3-4, 1-3) for the 12th time in history.
  • Maine climbed to fifth in the CAA in turnover margin (+3) with five interceptions in last week's 28-21 victory over Rhode Island. The fifth pick of the day came on the final play of the game when Jason Matovu hauled in the turnover in Maine's own endzone. It was the first time Maine recorded five INTs in a game since also pulling in five in 2009 at Hofstra.
  • This will be the 12th meeting between Maine and William and Mary. Tribe head coach Jimmye Laycock has been a part of all of them while this is the first for Coach Harasymiak at the helm. Maine has won two-straight in the series, including a 34-20 victory in the latest meeting ('13). The Black Bears were also victorious in their last trip to W&M, 24-10 ('12). Maine is 2-3 at W&M with a no contest in 2003. The Black Bears have score 20+ in each of the last eight meetings with the Tribe.
  • W&M, coming off a bye, defeated Delaware 24-17 in its last outing. W&M is 2-1 this season at home.
  • Maine, which has rushed for 185+ yards in three of its last four, will look to exploit W&M's rush defense which ranks 11th in the CAA (215.6 ypg).
  • Key matchup: Maine's third ranked CAA pass offense (214.6 ypg) against W&M's second ranked CAA pass defense (154.1 ypg).

The Black Bears were victorious, 24-10, in their last trip to W&M in 2012 and have won their last two away games against the Tribe. Maine has scored 20+ in its last 8 games against W&M. The Tribe won the first five meetings, including a 47-23 victory in the first ever game between the two teams (1993). Since then, Maine is 4-2 in decisions against W&M since 2002.
