Men's Ice Hockey Squares Off Against #2 Quinnipiac This Weekend

Black Bears are 2-0 after sweeping RPI last weekend.

ORONO, Maine -- Maine men's ice hockey squares off against #2 Quinnipiac this weekend beginning on October 14 with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop and on October 15 beginning at 7:00 p.m. 

All-Time Series
Maine and Quinnipiac are tied in the all-time series 3-3. Their last meeting took place last season as Quinnipiac took the season series with one victory on Oct. 20, 4-0 and then travelled to Orono where the Black Bears tied the Bobcats 3-3. Returning players Nolan Vesey and Brendan Robbins had goals against Quinnipiac last season. The first ever meeting between these programs took place in 1999 with a 7-4 win for the Black Bears on December 12.


A Look at Maine
The Black Bears are starting 2-0 this season after sweeping the weekend series against RPI, 5-1 and 4-2. Freshman forward, Mitchell Fossier earned Hockey East rookie of the week awards after scoring a hat trick in his first career game as a Black Bear. In total, Fossier scored four points on the weekend (four goals), Nolan Vesey also scored four points on the weekend with four assists. 

Rob McGovern picked up two victories stopping a total of 68 shots in the two games combined and only allowed 1.50 per game to go along with a .958 save percentage.


Scouting The Bobcats
The Bobcats are entering the 2016-17 season with a 1-0-1 record after a two game series against Northeastern. Last season's national runners-up are led by Tim Clifton who has scored two goals this season. 

Chris Truehl has played both games in goal for the Bobcats and has stopped 60 shots and allowed four goals. Truehl has a .938 save percentage to go along with a 1.92 goals against average.
