BOSTON – The University of Maine field hockey team defeated the Boston University Terriers, 3-2 in overtime, on Sunday at the New Balance Field.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Black Bears were awarded a penalty corner with 2:21 remaining on the clock. Martha Barratt would capitalize and score her second goal of the season giving Maine a 1-0 lead.
Maine would then take a two goal lead in the third quarter as Gabi Sousa would redirect a shot in from Emily Chsholm for her first career goal.
Boston University would score two unanswered goals from Alex Purcell and Rachel Turer to end the third.
Eloise Penty would score the game winning goal in overtime of a rebound for her first goal of the season to give Maine a 3-2 win.
Annabel Halkes made nine saves in the contest for her third win of the season.
Maine is back in action on Sunday as they return home to face Dartmouth at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.
