Women's Basketball to welcome back Alumnae, 1990-91 champions

Black Bears host UMass Lowell on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team is thrilled to host its annual Alumnae Day this Saturday, Jan. 31 when the Black Bears host UMass Lowell at 1 p.m. at Skip Chappelle Court. Highlights the Alumnae Day celebration will be the special recognition of the 1990-91 North Atlantic Conference championship team.

The 1990-91 Black Bears, coached by Trish Roberts, finished their championship campaign at 20-8 with a 9-1 mark in North Atlantic Conference play. The Black Bears, who captured the NAC regular season title, earned the No. 1 seed in the postseason conference tournament and opened the playoffs by defeating No. 4 Hartford, 79-59. In the championship game, the Black Bears led by one at the half before going on to outscore No. 2 seed Vermont 43-29 in the second half to earn the title. All-American Rachel Bouchard guided the way with a game-high 28 points in the win while Tracey Frenette added 15 points. 

Bouchard, who was named the tournament most valuable player, was named a WBCA/Kodak District I All-American and the league's player of the year while also being named to the league's all-conference first team. Bouchard led the Black Bears in scoring (23.5 ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg) while Julie Bradstreet paced Maine in assists with 3.9 helpers per game.
