ALBANY, N.Y. -- In a game which featured 11 lead changes and six ties, the Black Bears outscored UAlbany 17-12 in the final quarter to close out a 65-60 road victory against the Great Danes on Thursday evening.
Adrianna Smith posted 25 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists to lead the Black Bears while
Asta Blauenfeldt added 12 points and three steals.
Sarah Talon rounded out Maine's double-figure scoring efforts with 11 points.
For Smith, the point total extended her double-figure scoring streak to 15 as she posted her eight performance of the year of scoring 25 or more points.
Maine shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from three point range and 25-of-55 (47.3) overall from the floor. The Black Bears forced 16 turnovers while posting 13 steals. Maine held a 19-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
Neither team could find separation in the first half. UAlbany jumped out to a 3-0 lead, its largest lead of the contest. Maine narrowed the gap and ended the quarter on a 4-0 run, with buckets from Talon and Blauenfeldt, to carry an 18-14 lead into the second.
Olivia Alvarez's triple, followed by a layup, gave Maine its largest lead of the half at 29-22 with 3:50 left in the second quarter.
The Great Danes closed the half on a 7-0 run to send the game into the break tied at 29-29.
Each team posted 19 points in the third quarter as the game would enter the fourth tied up at 48-all.
Blauenfeldt opened the final quarter with a big three to break the tie. Following a bucket by the Great Danes, Smith converted on a second chance layup before another triple from Blauenfeldt gave Maine an 8-2 run and a six point cushion.
The Great Danes trimmed the deficit to four before back-to-back buckets from Smith gave Maine its largest lead of the night, 60-52, with 3:45 to play.
UAlbany closed the gap to four three more times but failed to get any closer as Maine took the road win, 65-60.
The Black Bears are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Binghamton at 2 p.m.
