ORONO, Maine -Â The University of Maine field hockey program was defeated by No. 8 Boston College by a final of 2-0 in the season opener for each program on Friday afternoon at the Maine Field Hockey Complex.
Madelieve Drion opened the score with the first goal just over a minute into the opening quarter.Â
The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 at 9:38 into the second quarter on Melea Weber's goal.
The Black Bears shutout Boston College in the second half but were unable to find the back of the cage themselves, falling by the final of 2-0.
Notes of the Game:
- Rozárie Mrázová recorded eight saves in the cage for the Black Bears. It tied the second highest single-game save total for her career and was her highest save total since a career-high 12 save performance a year ago against Vermont.
- Nicole Kowalewski tallied a team-high two shots for the Black Bears.
- Shots favored Boston College, 15-3
- Penalty corners favored Maine, 9-4. Maine generated eight corners in the fourth quarter.
Next time out:Â Maine hosts Indiana at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Maine Field Hockey Complex. The first 175 people in attendance will receive a free chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A while the first 50 UMaine students through the gates will receive a commemorative Maine Field Hockey stein.
