Albin Boija named Richter Award finalist

The Mike Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in Men's NCAA Division I hockey

ORONO, Maine – University of Maine men's ice hockey goaltender Albin Boija has been named a Top-4 Finalist for the 2025 Mike Richter Award, as announced on Wednesday by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

The Mike Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in Men's NCAA Division I hockey. Boija is joined as a finalist by Jacob Fowler (Boston College), Alex Tracy (Minnesota State) and Trey Augustine (Michigan State).

Boija is currently fourth overall in the country with a 1.75 goals against average. His .930 save percentage is the ninth-best mark overall but that number ranks fourth among goaltenders who have played more than 30 games. Boija is just the ninth goaltender nationally over the last 10 seasons of Division I men's ice hockey to post an overall goals against average of 1.75 or below in their first 34 games played in a season and since the start of the 2002-03 season, he's only the third Hockey East goaltender to do so. Additionally, his 1.77 goals against in Hockey East games this year is the best mark by a league goaltender who played at least 23 conference games since 2002-03. The sophomore is also fifth overall in the country in wins with a 21-7-6 record and is tied third in shutouts with four.

Boija, who was a Hockey East Second Team All-Star, is looking to become the second Maine netminder to win the award and the first since Jeremy Swayman in 2020.

The four finalists were chosen by a panel of voters from across the hockey community. The panel includes coaches from each conference as well as members of the national media, professional scouts and representatives of USA Hockey. The winner of this year's Mike Richter Award will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis.
