ORONO, Maine – Arthur S. Demoulas has committed $500,000 to support the men's ice hockey program through the
Black Bear Student-Athlete Experience Fund.
Arthur has jump-started the support for the Black Bear Student-Athlete Experience Fund in hopes others will join him in the support of Maine hockey by making a gift of any level.
"Arthur's lead gift has given Maine hockey great momentum as we embrace the new NCAA landscape," said men's hockey head coach
Ben Barr. "This gift gives us the momentum needed to keep Black Bear hockey thriving. With the recently renovated Shawn Walsh Hockey Center and Alfond Arena, and best game day environment, Black Bear hockey is in a great position to thrive well into the future. We are blessed to have Arthur as a supporter, just as we are humbled to have Black Bear Nation by our side every night at the Alfond."
The Black Bear Student-Athlete Experience Fund was established in conjunction with the University of Maine Foundation to advance excellence. It will do so by providing student-athletes with the best experience in college athletics to ensure that UMaine remains competitive, adaptable and well-supported in this new era of collegiate athletics, including but not limited to scholarships, nutrition, travel and funding for direct payments, which are now allowable. Donors can provide general support to be used at the discretion of the university or direct their giving to a particular team.
