Joey Stauss has been named the America East Male Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Stauss had a strong week at the Maine State Meet, led by his winning and record breaking 200-yard butterfly. In the event, Stauss set the UMaine and Maine State Meet record with a winning time of 1:48.80. In addition, Stauss bested 44 other student-athletes to wi the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 21.60. He also added a runner-up showing in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.75.Â
Stauss was a leader on Maine's relay teams throughout the two day event. He assisted Maine's 200-yard freestyle relay team to a sixth place finish at 1:24.33 and combined with three others to take gold in the mixed 400-yard medley relay at 3:36.96.Â
He assisted the 400-yard freestyle relay team to a silver medal with a time of 3:04.68 and joined the 200-yard medley. relay team to place fifht at 1:32.26.
