ORONO, Maine -- For the first time since 2017, the University of Maine men's swimming & diving team defeated Providence, winning by a final of 174-122 on Senior Day at Wallace Pool.
Joey Stauss led the way for Maine, earning three individual victories. Stauss took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.80), the 100-yard butterfly (49.58), and the 200-yard IM (1:58.82).  Â
Matthew Bendoraitis swept the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard back at 52.78 before capturing first place in the 200-yard back at 1:54.53.
Nate Teerlinck won the 100-yard breaststroke at 56.50 and was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:09.30. The Black Bears swept the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke with
Jesse Lower taking second at 59.44 and
Noah Machristie placing third at 59.99. Machristie won the 200-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 2:08.54.
Julian Lapietra won both the 50-yard freestyle (21.46) and the 100-yard free (46.63).
On the boards,
Gray Miller took gold in the 1-meter with a score of 281.63.
Jeremiah Small was the runner-up on the 1-meter board at 260.70.
Maine's team of Bendoraitis, Teerlinck, Stauss, and Lapietra won the 200-yard medley relay at 1:33.78.
