WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of Maine men's swimming & diving team stands in third place with 213 points after one day of competition at the Maine State Meet, hosted by Colby College. The Black Bears posted 11 top-10 finishes on day one.
Joey Stauss had the top finish for the Black Bears, besting 44 others to win the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 21.60.
In the distance event,
John Milner led the way by placing seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:45.93. Milner was followed closely by
Noah Machristie who placed eighth at 4:45.95.
Jackson White came home 10th in the 50-yard butterfly at 23.20 while
Calvin Comeau took 11th at 23.22
Jesse Lower was fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 25.95 while
Nate Teerlinck turned in a fifth place finish in the event at 25.98.
Carter Bartolini had Maine's top showing in the 200-yard IM, taking seventh at 1:58.69. Bartolini was followed by
Ian Mallari who placed 10th in the IM at 1:59.86.
Matthew Bendoraitis was the runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke at 24.15, followed by
Brendan Matos in eighth at 25.03.
Julian LaPietra placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.02.
Maine's team of Stauss, Bendoraitis, Lower, and LaPietra took sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:24.33.
Lower and Stauss teamed with Charlotte Hoover and Emily Yorkievitaz to win the mixed 400-yard medley relay with a fianl time of 3:36.96.
