HAMDEN, Conn. -- The University of Maine women's basketball team, which trailed by as many as 11 at Quinnipiac, battled back to earn a 63-55 victory over the Bobcats on Sunday afternoon.
Maine, which outscored Quinnipiac 40-25 in the second half, was led by
Adrianna Smith who registered 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. Smith tallied her seventh double-double of the season and moved into seventh on Maine's all-time rebounding list.
Asta Blauenfeldt added 15 points while
Lala Woods, making her collegiate debut, chipped in eight points off the bench.
The Black Bears shot 45.3 percent from the floor, hitting 7-of-19 triples, and won the rebounding battle by a 38-35 margin.Â
A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears, who recently earned their first road win of the season with their first-ever win over Quinnipiac, are led by
Adrianna Smith. Smith currently leads the America East in scoring (18.2) and rebounding (10.2) and ranks second among league leaders in assists (4.4). Her seven double-doubles, two in each of her last two outings, ranks her second in the country in the category. Smith is riding a seven-game double-digit scoring streak and has posted double-digits in 11 of her 12 outings this season. She stands just 10 points shy of moving into 11th on Maine's all-time scoring list. After two scoreless games,
Asta Blauenfeldt has bounced back with double-digits in each of her last two outings and ranks 11.4 points per game. Blauenfeldt is Maine's top three-point threat, ranking seventh in the America East in three-pointers per game (1.9) and ninth in three-point percentage (35.4). Blauenfeldt is coming off her 100th career game. The Black Bears have won the rebounding battle in each of their last three games and currently ranks second in the America East at 13.8 turnovers per game.Â
A LOOK AT HARVARD:
The Crimson enter riding a three-game win streak including its first-ever victory over an SEC opponent with a 69-51 win at Arkansas on Nov. 30. Harvard leads the Ivy League in turnovers forced, taking it away 19.6 times per game and have also been impressive on the offensive glass where they also rank at the top of the Ivy at 15.0 offensive rebounds per game. Abigail Wright leads the way for the Crimson, ranking fifth in the Ivy in scoring (14.5) and sixth in rebounding (6.9). Her 4.3 offensive rebounds per game lead the Ivy and check in 11th nationally. Karlee White, who has only appeared in six games this season, is adding 14.2 points and 4.7 rebounds but hasn't played since Nov. 19. Saniyah Glenn-Bello rounds out the double-figure scorers at 10.1 points and 4.4 rebounds.Â
SERIES WITH HARVARD:Â
Maine and Harvard will meet for the 21st time and the fourth in as many years. Maine holds an 11-9 all-time mark over the Crimson. Harvard has won three of the last four meetings including an 83-41 decision a year ago in Orono. In the latest meeting,
Sarah Talon posted 10 points and three rebounds. Maine's last win at Harvard came in 2018, a 67-60 decision. Maine and Harvard's first-ever meeting came in 1984, an 86-56 Black Bear win. Maine is 4-5 all-time on the road against Harvard.Â
