Preview: Black Bears host Wildcats in America East Quarterfinal

Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at the New Balance Soccer Complex

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will host New Hampshire in the America East Championship quarterfinal round on Sunday, Nov. 2 at New Balance Soccer Complex.
 
The Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle will kick off at 12 p.m., and the match will stream live on ESPN+. Tickets are available online HERE, over the phone at 207-581-BEAR or in-person at the Alfond Arena ticket office during normal business hours. Tickets can also be purchased on Sunday at the entrance to the New Balance Soccer Complex.
 
The fourth-seeded Black Bears earned home field for the first round by defeating the fifth-seeded Wildcats, 2-1, on Thursday night in the regular season finale in Orono. The winner of the Maine-UNH quarterfinal will advance to the America East Championship semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 6.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine finished the regular season at 4-7-2 overall and 3-3-2 in America East play to earn a home playoff game for the fourth consecutive season.
• The Black Bears defeated the Wildcats 2-1 at home in Thursday night's regular season finale to jump to fourth place in the standings … after taking a 1-0 lead on an own goal in the first half, Luise Reinwald scored her first goal of the season in the second half … UNH converted a penalty kick and pressured late but Maine held on for the win.
• Maine has 10 different goal scorers in a season for the first time since 2022.
• Emma Nicholson leads Maine in points (8), assists (4) and shots (31) while sitting second with two goals … Nicholson finished first in conference assists with three.
• Julie Lossius (3-0-6) and Abbey Thornton (3-1-7) are tied for the team lead in goals.
• The Black Bears tied for the America East lead in shots (130) and shots per game (16.25) during the regular season conference slate.
• In shots per game, Victoria Dungey (2.38) sits eighth in the conference while Nicholson (2.33) is ninth.
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
• New Hampshire enters Sunday's clash at 4-5-7 overall, including a 2-2-4 mark in America East play.
• UNH's four previous games have been decided by one goal or less … prior to facing Maine on Thursday night, the Wildcats had played to three consecutive ties, doing it against UMBC, Binghamton (1-1) and Bryant (0-0).
• Abbi Maier (6-1-13) and Ricshya Walker (4-3-11) lead the Wildcats in scoring.
• Eleven different players have scored a goal for UNH this season, including six Wildcats with multiple goals.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs NEW HAMPSHIRE
• Maine holds an all-time record of 19-19-4 in the series with New Hampshire … these two teams just met on Thursday night, with Maine picking up a 2-1 win in Orono.
• The Black Bears went 2-0-0 last season, earning a 1-0 road win to close out the regular season and then defeating the Wildcats in the America East Championship game.
• Eight of the last 10 and games and 17 of the last 20 have been decided by one goal or less.
