Preview: Soccer readies to play at NJIT on Saturday

The Black Bears and Highlanders will kickoff at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will head to New Jersey on Saturday to face the NJIT Highlanders at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
 
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the America East contest will also stream live on ESPN+.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine is 2-2-2 in America East play to go with an overall mark of 3-6-3.
• The Black Bears hosted UMBC this past Sunday, earning a 2-0 win … Britta Denny scored her first career goal while Julie Lossius scored her third goal of the season … Emma Nicholson picked up assists on both goals.
• Nicholson leads Maine in points (8), assists (4) and shots (31) while sitting second with two goals … Nicholson ranks first in conference assists with three.
• Lossius (3-0-6) and Abbey Thornton (3-0-6) are tied for the team lead in goals.
• As a team, the Black Bears are second in the conference in shots per game (16.50) … Victoria Dungey and Nicholson both rank in the top 10 in the America East in shots with a 2.33 shots per game average.
 
ABOUT NJIT
• The Highlanders are 5-5-6 overall and 0-3-3 in conference play heading into Saturday night's game … NJIT fell to Bryant, 1-0, this past Sunday.
• Briana Andreoli leads the conference with eight goals and 19 points … Kelsey Ramos is second on the team with three goals.
• Mojisola Ayodele and Enya Carthy have been splitting time in goal … Ayodele has started four goals and is 4-3-3 with a .810 save percentage while Carthy is 1-2-3 in 12 starts while posting a .796 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs NJIT
• Maine holds an all-time record of 2-1-3 against NJIT.
• Last season, the teams battled to a 2-2 tie in Orono … the Highlanders led 2-0 with less than 20 minutes to play but Lara Kirkby and Gillian Rovers scored to earn the comeback tie.
• Julie Lossius (1-2-3), Victoria Dungey (1-0-2) and Abbey Thornton (1-0-2) all have points against the Highlanders in their careers.
• The first-ever meeting in the series came on March 14, 2021, with the teams battling to a 1-1 tie in Orono.
