ORONO, Maine – University of Maine men's hockey goaltender
Albin Boija is one of 35 goaltenders that has been named to the 2025 Mike Richter Award Watch List, as announced on Tuesday by the Hockey Commissioners Association.
Â
The Mike Richter Award is given annually to the top goalie in Men's NCAA Division I hockey. Goalies qualified for the initial 'Watch List' by meeting minimum standards in goals against average (less than 2.30) and save percentage (greater than .920).
Â
Boija is currently second in the nation with a 1.55 goals against average while his .931 save percentage is tied 8th among goaltenders who have started at least 10 games. The sophomore is also third in wins at 14-4-2 overall and is tied for third in shutouts with three. The Sundsvall, Sweden native leads all of Hockey East in goals against average, save percentage and wins. His 1.55 goals against average is the fourth-best mark by a Hockey East goaltender through their first 20 games played since the start of the 2005-06 season.
Â
A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media — will pare this list down to approximately a dozen semifinalists within the next three weeks and then ultimately choose a winner from three finalists who will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four. Other names may be added for consideration before the first formal vote.
