Vermont Up Next for Black Bears

The Black Bears and Catamounts are set to kickoff at 11 a.m. at Virtue Field.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will head to Vermont for the first America East road test of the season on Sunday.
 
The Black Bears and Catamounts are set to kickoff at 11 a.m. at Virtue Field. The rematch of the 2023 America East Tournament semifinal clash will stream live on ESPN+.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine enters Sunday's at 5-1-2 overall and 1-0 in America East play… the Black Bears defeated Binghamton, 2-1, at home this past Sunday in the conference opener … Abby Kraemer and Kayla Kraemer scored for the Black Bears.
Abby Kraemer (2-4-8), Kayla Kraemer (3-2-8), Lara Kirkby (3-2-8) and Jordane Pinette (3-2-8) make Maine the only America East school to have four players with at least eight points each … the Black Bears are just the second America East school to do that in the last two seasons.
• Maine's win against Binghamton on Sept. 22 extended the Black Bears' home unbeaten streak to 22 games, tying an America East record.
• Maine's four-game unbeaten streak to start the season marked the third consecutive year that the Black Bears went unbeaten in the first four games and the fourth straight year to go unbeaten in the first three games.

ABOUT VERMONT
• The Catamounts sit at 5-2-3 overall and 0-1 in America East play … Vermont fell in the conference opener at New Hampshire last weekend, 2-0.
• Bailey Ayer has an America East-leading 19 points and eight goals to go with three assists … Ayer has scored two game-winning goals while registering 28 shots and 17 shots on goal.
• Eight Catamounts have scored a goal, including three players with multiple goals.
• Four different goalkeepers have seen time for the Catamounts but Kylee Carafoli has seen the majority of time, going 4-1-2 with a .767 save percentage and 1.17 goals against average while making 23 saves.
• Vermont was tabbed fourth in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll while Ayer, Kate Bossert and Maddy Cronin were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs VERMONT
• Maine holds an all-time record of 13-16-6 against Vermont.
• The teams met twice last season, both times in Orono … in the regular season, the Black Bears picked up a 3-2 win thanks to two goals in the 88th minute from Luise Reinwald and Jordane Pinette … the teams battled again in the America East Tournament semifinal round, with Abby Kraemer scoring twice – including in the 90th minute – to send Maine to the title game.
• The last three meetings in the series and 13 of the last 15 have been decided by one goal or less.
• The first-ever meeting came back in 1990, with Vermont picking up a 3-0 win … the Catamounts won the first 10 games in the series before Maine went on a seven-game winning streak.

• The Black Bears will then travel to Bryant for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 6.
