ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine soccer team will travel to Rhode Island this weekend for a Sunday matinee against the Rams at the URI Soccer Complex.
 
The 1 p.m. non-conference clash between the Black Bears and Rams will air live on ESPN+.

MAINE, IN BRIEF
• The Black Bears went 1-0-1 last week in opening the season on the road … Maine topped Le Moyne, 4-0, and battled Syracuse to a tie, 1-1 … Maine's result against Syracuse marked the first for an America East school against the ACC since 2012.
• After the opening two games, Hermann Trophy Watch List-member Abby Kraemer leads Maine with five points on one goal and three assists … Lara Kirkby has two goals, scoring once in each contest … Jordane Pinette and Abbey Thornton also found the back of the net for Maine.
• Defender Anna Phillips was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week after playing all 180 minutes and helping the defense limit the opposition to just 12 shots total and two on goal.
• Maine went 11-2-6 overall in 2023 en route to the program's first-ever America East tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth … the Black Bears 8-0-4 start to the season marked the longest undefeated start to begin a season in program history
• Maine returns 95 percent of the scoring from a season ago, including nine of the top 10 point-getters.

• Rhode Island, who hosts Brown on Friday night, fell at Providence in its season opener last week, 1-0.
• The Rams, who went 4-9-6 in 2023, were picked ninth in the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll.
• Lauren MacDonald returns for URI after leading the team with 18 shots on goal and finishing second in points (5) in 2023 while earning Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors.

SERIES HISTORY vs RHODE ISLAND
• Maine sits at 8-10-3 in the all-time series with URI, including a mark of 3-2-0 in the last five games.
• The Rams and Black Bears met last season in Orono, with Maine earning a 1-0 win ... Lara Kirkby scored the game's only goal in the 83rd minute.
