ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team split a doubleheader with Bryant on Sunday afternoon at the UMaine Softball Complex.

After falling in the first game of the day, 10-2, the Black Bears responded with a 5-1 win over the Bulldogs in the second.

How it Happened

After a scoreless first inning, Bryant put a run on the board in the top of the second … in the bottom of the third Kenedee Giddens scored on a pass ball to tie it up, 1-1.
The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead on a fourth-inning double and then plated seven runs in the top of the fifth for a 10-1 lead.
Krista Francia doubled home Kyli Hernandez in the bottom of the fifth but that would be Maine's only run as the Bulldogs closed it out for the run-rule victory.

Game Notes

Krista Francia (1-for-3) and Katie Jo Moery (1-for-2) had doubles for Maine.
Kyli Hernandez had Maine's other hit on the day to extend her hitting streak to five games.
Caitlyn Fallon started, going 4.0 innings while giving up three runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts … Kaly Thomas threw 0.2 innings of relief, giving up six runs – one earned – on two hits and three walks … Alysen Rieth threw 0.1 innings of relief.

How it Happened

After a scoreless first frame, the Black Bears took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second … Kennedy Priest walked, moved to second on a Keira Inman bunt and then stole third … Kenedee Giddens then put the ball in play to score both Priest and Inman.
In the top of the fourth, Bryant loaded the bases with zero outs but Isabelle True struck out three batters in a row to get out of the jam.
In the bottom of the fifth, Giddens tripled to left field and then scored when Francia singled down the right field line.
Gabby Papushka sent a two-run double to left center in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-0 Maine.
Bryant put one run on the board in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly but True forced a ground out for the final out.

Game Notes

Isabelle True started and threw a complete game ... in 7.0 innings of work she allowed one run on five hits while walking three and striking out six.
Krista Francia was 1-for-3 with one RBI … Gabby Papushka was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI … Kenedee Giddens went 1-for-3 with a triple and one run scored … Kennedy Priest was 1-for-2 with a double and one run scored. … Keira Inman was 1-for-2 with two runs scored
Anna Margetis was 1-for-3 and has now reached base safely in four consecutive games.
