ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team will host UMBC in the final regular season America East home series of the year this weekend at the UMaine Softball Complex.

The Black Bears and Retrievers will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday. April 20 and a single game at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 21. Caitlyn Fallon, Isabelle True, Kennedy Priest and Anna Margetis will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY

The Black Bears hold an overall record of 32-28 against the Retrievers … UMBC took all three games when these two teams met in Baltimore back in March.
The Black Bears' last win against UMBC came on April 17, 2022 in Orono, with Maine earning an 8-3 win … Gabby Papushka scored twice and had one RBI while Katie Jo Moery was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

ABOUT UMBC

The Retrievers bring an overall mark of 16-18 and an America East record of 5-7 into the weekend series in Orono.
UMBC played a single game at Maryland on Wednesday night, falling 14-1 … last weekend, the Retrievers went 1-2 against UMass Lowell, picking up a 7-0 win before falling 9-2 and 4-3.
Ella Squaires (.391), Amaya Carroll (.330), Amya Lundy (.308) and Ashley Della Guardia (.308) are all hitting over .300 for UMBC … Squaires as a team-leading 45 hits and .457 on-base percentage.
UMBC has won four consecutive America East Tournament titles and was picked to finish first in this year's America East preseason poll.

BLACK BEAR BITS

Katie Jo Moery leads Maine with a .287 average and 25 hits … her eight doubles tie for fifth overall in America East … Moery is also 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts … she has five multi-hit games on the year.
Anna Margetis is hitting .256 while leading the team with three home runs and 12 RBI.
Krista Francia is batting .253 with 21 hits and has scored a team-leading 10 runs … in the field, Francia's .982 fielding percentage is seventh among league players with at least 100 chances.
Keira Inman has a team-leading five stolen bases.
Kenedee Giddens has reached base in six consecutive games.

UP NEXT

The Black Bears will wrap up non-conference play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Holy Cross on Thursday, April 25.
Maine will then play a three-game America East series at UMass Lowell April 27-28, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 followed by a single game at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.
