Albin Boija Named Hockey East Defender of the Week

Boija posted a shutout on the road at #11 UMass.

AMESBURY, Mass. – University of Maine men's ice hockey goaltender Albin Boija has been named the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Week, as announced on Monday by the league.

The Sundsvall, Sweden native posted his first career shutout on Saturday night, making 15 saves in Maine's 1-0 win at #11 UMass. Boija became the first goaltender to shutout UMass this season and the first to shutout the Minutemen at the Mullins Center since October 2021.

The win moved Boija to 4-1-1 on the season. The shutout was also Maine's first against UMass since Matt Morris made 29 saves in a 3-0 win at the Mullins Center on Jan. 10, 2015.
 
This is the second weekly honor of the season for Boija.
